STUDENTS' DIFFICULTIES IN READING RECOUNT TEXT 4.2

4.1.1.c             Making conclusion test

In this test type, students only make conclusion based on the test text. The result table described that the class had high correct average score. 24 of the  students answered correctly. Most of Broadcasting students also qualified the English subject minimal score standard (KKM). It indicated that students could make conclusion and draw passage of  reading recount text. However, the high average score of students did not mean that students did not have difficulties about the text. For number 2, 4 and 7, it seems that students still answered incorecctly. They were . 66%, 69%, and 53%. It means the students did not qualify the standard score.  Some students still had some difficulties to make conclusion and draw passage. It was proved by their incorrect average score that was 8. Careless was one factor that students answered incorrectly. To decide the statement are false or true, students have to more be careful in comprehending text because statement only has two choice, true or false.

Vocabulary test aims to know students’ difficulty of vocabulary (O’malley, 1995). The result of the correct average score was 26. It indicated that most of students had high ability to comprehend the recount text, especially in the vocabulary mastery. It also means most of students did not have many difficulties for answering the vocabulary test. They guessed the meaning of words naturally and contextual, so that they could answer questions easily, even though, they did not know the meaning of same words. They had good ability in guessing unfamiliar words by using contextual way or related to before statement. Most of the students could also qualify the English subject minimal score standard (KKM) beacuse their correct scores of every numbers were more than 70%. Their correct answer average score proved that Broadcasting class had enough vocabulary and had less difficulties in reading recount text although for number 2,  only 22 (66%) of students answered correctly.

Grammar test aims to know students’ difficulty of grammar. In this test type, researcher concluded that the class had poor ability to comprehend the recount text, especially in grammatical and functional mastery. It seems from the student’s correct answer average which was only 21. From the data, students answered the question variously and 11,4 of students answered incorrectly. It proved that students got confuse of the test. It also indicated that most of students did not qualify the English subject minimal score standard (KKM). For number 1, 4, 6 and 10, students had high correct answer scores. They were more than 70%. Otherwise, other numbers scores were under 70%. It means that students still had some difficulties in discriminating pattern of words. It was caused by limited grammatical and functional mastery.
